Born in Waerebo Village in 1969, Martin has been a dedicated local guide since 2003. As the founder of Waerebo Lodge, he has spent over two decades sharing village stories and helping global travelers experience the authentic culture and natural beauty of Flores.

Our History
The journey of Waerebo Lodge is about more than building a place to stay. Growing alongside the Waerebo community, the lodge has evolved from a humble family-run guesthouse into a gateway for travelers seeking the natural beauty of Flores, the richness of local culture, and the genuine hospitality passed down through generations.
2010
Inspired by the spirit of community-based ecotourism, Martin and Isabela founded Waerebo Lodge as a simple resting place for travelers visiting Waerebo Village. At the time, the lodge consisted of just three guest rooms and was entirely managed by the family.
2012
As word of Waerebo's beauty began to spread, more travelers made the journey to this remote mountain village. To welcome them, four additional wooden rooms were added, allowing more guests to rest comfortably before and after their trek.
2013
With visitor numbers continuing to grow, so did the stories, friendships, and cultural exchanges taking place at the lodge. Two more rooms were added, and Waerebo Lodge gradually became known as a gathering place for travelers from around the world seeking an authentic Flores experience.
2021
With guest numbers continuing to grow, more rooms and supporting facilities were gradually added, helping the lodge become a stronger and more reliable base for travelers.

After years of welcoming trekkers and adventurers, we introduced two new rooms featuring air conditioning and hot showers. These additions provided extra comfort for guests while maintaining the warm and personal atmosphere that defines Waerebo Lodge.
2022
The journey of Waerebo Lodge has always been closely connected to the people of Dintor and Waerebo. Together with local guides, farmers, fishermen, and village families, we continue to build a tourism experience that supports the local economy while preserving the region's culture and traditions.

As travel expectations evolved, some of our rooms were thoughtfully renovated to provide greater comfort and convenience while preserving the simple charm and relaxed atmosphere that guests have come to love.

Our journey continues. Additional room upgrades were completed to enhance the guest experience while staying true to the values that have guided us from the beginning: genuine hospitality, simplicity, and a deep connection to nature and local culture.
